Jets place left tackle Duane Brown on injured reserve with a hip injury

FLORHAM PARK, N.J. (AP) — The New York Jets placed left tackle Duane Brown on injured reserve Saturday, leaving quarterback Zach Wilson without his starting blindside blocker against the New England Patriots. The 38-year-old Brown was initially ruled out earlier Saturday just for the game Sunday by the Jets after the offensive lineman missed practice all week. Coach Robert Saleh was optimistic Friday that Brown would be able to play, but added Brown was having his ailing hip checked out by doctors. Those examinations apparently showed enough to warrant the Jets placing Brown on IR, which means he’ll miss at least the next four games. Brown sat out most of training camp while recovering from offseason shoulder surgery and struggled in New York’s first two games. It’s uncertain who’ll replace Brown at left tackle, but both Saleh and offensive line coach Keith Carter seemed to rule out sliding right tackle Mekhi Becton — a natural left tackle — over to the left si...

There’s a difference,” Lanning told his team in front of ESPN's cameras.Troy Franklin caught eight passes for 126 yards and two scores for Oregon.Sanders turned around a Colorado program that won just one game last year, bringing aboard 67 new scholarship players and opening the season with wins over TCU, Nebraska and last weekend’s double-overtime thriller against Colorado State. He had hoped to rejoin the club as it contends for an NL wild card spot.“Very frustrating for me, a guy who likes to compete,” Alcantara told reporters before the Marlins played the Milwaukee Brewers Saturday. “I feel sorry for the fans, my family, my son, my friends because I’m not going to be out there this year. Just try to be ready for next year, I don’t know. Robert hits 311-foot homer in 9th to snap scoreless tie and give White Sox 1-0 win over Red Sox

BOSTON (AP) — There’s no other ballpark in the majors where Luis Robert Jr.’s 311-foot line drive would have been a home run.Heck, it might not have even gotten high enough to clear Fenway Park’s 37-foot Green Monster in left. But the White Sox slugger’s curving liner found the front row of the right field seats beyond Fenway’s Pesky Pole in the ninth inning of a scoreless game on Saturday to give Chicago a 1-0 victory over the Boston Red Sox.“It was hilarious because he’s got (38) home runs and all that, and then he hits one 311,” said Dylan Cease, who struck out 11 in seven scoreless innings to surpass 200 strikeouts for the third straight season. “Baseball is funny like that sometimes.”Playing in a cold rain, with the wind blowing in at a steady 10 mph, Cease and Boston starter Nick Pivetta matched scoreless innings before both departed after seven. Aaron Bummer (5-5) pitched the eighth for Chicago, walking the first two batters before retiring the he...

Red Sox waste Pivetta’s 7 shutout innings in 1-0 loss

Published Fri, 21 Feb 2025 21:08:13 GMT

On Saturday, two original American League franchises with losing records played a meaningless ballgame at Major League Baseball’s oldest ballpark, the Chicago White Sox beating the Boston Red Sox 1-0.Indeed, it was a mediocre pair of Sox that faced off at Fenway Park on a rainy first day of fall. The pitchers’ duel, however, was anything but. For seven innings, Nick Pivetta and Dylan Cease shut out one another’s offense. Cease notched his 200th strikeout early on, and finished the evening with 11 punchouts and zero walks. Of course, he had some help from a Red Sox lineup that continues leaving men (10) on base as if they’re allergic to driving in runs; Boston was 0-for-10 with runners in scoring position, stranding six during Cease’s portion of the game, and finished the day with eight hits and nothing to show for them.As the Boston bats took and quickly gave back their chances, Pivetta held down the fort. He needed just 92 pitches to mow down the White Sox, striking out seven and al...
